The smell is not in the carpet — it is under it
Pet urine passes through the pile, through the backing and into the underlay, where it crystallises. Those crystals reactivate with humidity, which is why the smell comes back on a damp Glasgow afternoon no matter how often you shampoo the surface.
Why masking products fail
Fragrance sprays and deodorising powders cover the smell for a day or two. The source is untouched, so the smell returns stronger — and you have now added perfume residue to the pile as well.
How enzyme treatment works
Enzymes break the uric acid crystals down into odourless compounds. The treatment has to reach the contamination, which means flooding the affected area to the depth the urine reached, letting it dwell, then extracting thoroughly. We use a UV light to find every spot first — including the ones you did not know about.
What we can and cannot fix
Fresh and moderate contamination we clear completely. Years of repeated accidents in the same spot may have soaked into the floorboards, and at that point the underlay needs replacing — we will tell you honestly rather than charge you for a clean that will not hold.
